Blockchain Futurist Conference Recap

Stephen Edvi • Aug 17, 2022

On August 9-10 2022, 10,000 blockchain enthusiasts gathered together in Toronto for Futurist Conference.

Bilal and I were attending for the first time and made the trip from Montreal to network and learn about the latest technologies in Web3.

Hosted at the Rebel Nightclub on a pier just east of downtown Toronto, Futurist was a sold-out conference which attracted the likes of crypto giants, Vitalik Buterin (Founder of Ethereum), Ethan Buchman (Founder of Cosmos), and Boris Alergant (Head of Defi Markets at Ripple).

There was one main stage that saw all the action for speakers and panelists, supported by an expo hall showcasing both well-known known and future promising crypto projects.

Perhaps the most entertaining “act” of the conference was Ethan Buchamn rapping on stage about crypto following his talk about Cosmos. We are not sure if he should quit his day-job as CEO of Cosmos for a shot at a Grammy but nevertheless we loved the change of pace.

Sprinkled throughout the venue were NFT art galleries, showcasing some beautiful virtual artwork created by some of web3s most talented artists.

Outside there was a Cabana Pool Bar, which made for a nice change of scenery if you wanted to network in a more quiet environment while soaking in the sun.

The overarching theme at this event was focused on building. There was little mention of the current bear market that crypto is facing right now. Instead, attendees were happy to share new utility ideas they thought up for blockchain, NFTs, and metavase projects.

It wouldn't be much of a crypto conference if it wasn't supported by great supporting events, and Futurist did not disappoint. Chainlink hosted a special fireside chat to promote their activation with decentralized economy platform Metis.

Featured guests Elena Sinelnikova (Co-Founder & CEO at Metis) and Natalia Ameline (Head of Investor Relations at Metis) shared a conversation around the potential of Layer 2’s and highly anticipated advancements in Web3.

Following the Chainlink event, we finished the night with dinner surrounded by many new friends and partners.

Whats Next?

Bilal and I are very happy to have had the opportunity of attending Futurist 2022, up next will be SmartCon, the premier Web3 conference by Chainlink, in NYC September 28-29, 2022.

If you will be there,  drop us a line and we will arrange a time to say hi!

Montreal continues to showcase its growing Web3 community with another sold-out networking event. The Soiree de Reseautage by Web3MTL , hosted at 0x Society in partnership with Axelar , Figment and Incubella, brought 200 crypto, blockchain & NFT enthusiasts together for a night of knowledge sharing. Despite the crypto market being bearish for the last 6 months, participants were optimistic about the future of crypto and discussed practical solutions of leveraging blockchain technology to improve many different industry verticals.

On May 27, 2022, The Chainlink Team hosted its first Canadian Meetup in Montreal. The networking style event, called Web3 Adoption in MTL: A New Hub for Blockchain Development, was the first Chainlink Meetup in Canada . The Chainlink Team facilitates these events with partners worldwide to promote an inclusive community for developers interested in building secure smart contracts for blockchains. “The opportunity to expand Chainlink Meetups to Canada has been on our radar since we first launched Meetups in the US. We wanted to make sure we found the right partners to help deliver the best experience for attendees and are very happy to have launched the first successful Chainlink Meetup in Montreal.” says Jamie Weintraub, Events Manager for the Chainlink community .
